Stop comparing your life to someone ‘healthier’
Have you ever looked at someone else's ‘healthy lifestyle’ and thought:
“How on earth does she do it?”
She gets up at 5am.
She goes to the gym.
She meal preps.
She drinks green smoothies.
She never seems to eat cake.
Meanwhile, you're just trying to get through Tuesday with less wine.
And this is where comparison can become a problem.
Because you start trying to build their version of a healthy life.
Which might be completely incompatible with yours. Not just now, but always!
If your healthy lifestyle requires you to give up everything you enjoy, constantly say no to social occasions and spend your Sunday batch-cooking seven identical lunches…it's hardly surprising if you don't stick with it.
Instead, I want you to ask:
“What would healthy look like if it actually fitted my life?”
Maybe that means:
Starting with one 15-minute strength training session a week.
A walk between meetings.
Eating out with friends without deciding you've “blown” the week.
Having a bit of chocolate in your life without it becoming a problem.
Going to bed earlier because you're tired, rather than squeezing in another task.
Your goal isn't to create the most impressive healthy lifestyle.
It's to create one you actually want to live.
Because when healthy choices feel like a punishment, you're constantly having to choose between what you want now and what you think you should do.
The real sweet spot is creating a life where the two aren't constantly in conflict.
Let’s make healthy simple
Complete this sentence: “A healthy life that I would actually enjoy living would include…”
Write down five things. Make sure at least one of them is something you genuinely will enjoy and look forward to.
Ask yourself, how committed you feel to following through with those actions? If they don’t score a 9/10, shrink the action until they do.
